On May 28, 2023, Ambassador Jorge Heine,\u00a0Research Professor at Boston University\u2019s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies and Interim Director of the\u00a0Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future<\/span><\/a>, was interviewed by\u00a0Real Clear Politics<\/span><\/a><\/span> <\/i><\/span>on China\u2019s commercial advances in Latin America. In the article, Professor Heine compares the U.S. attempt at aiding countries as charity while China is coming in in order to \u201cdo business\u201d and offer long-term relief.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cChina comes in and offers trade and investment. They put development at the center of their relations. The United States talks a great game about democracy and human rights but doesn’t put development at the center of its relations with Latin America.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
