Pardee School of Global Studies\u00a0<\/span>and Director of the\u00a0<\/span>Global Development Policy Center<\/a> (GDP Center), commented on the new candidate for the World Bank<\/a>, Ajay Banga, and the implications of the United States<\/a> nominating him in the Global Insider Newsletter<\/em> from\u00a0Politico<\/span><\/a><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

This portion of the newsletter, titled “World Bank \u2014 Will Biden Nominee Ajay Banga Make The Cut?<\/a>“, discusses the likelihood and obstacles that Banga faces to become the new head of the World Bank. The article explains the disproportionate influence that the United States holds over the nominee process, with Gallagher noting that “the Biden<\/a> administration dampened any hopes for a global merit-based competition for a new World Bank president.” The article holds that while other potential candidates from Russia may attract votes, the support that Banga has already received would make it difficult for him to be outvoted.<\/span><\/p>\n
