In a recent BBC<\/a> <\/em>interview<\/a>, Jorge Heine<\/a>, Research Professor at Boston University\u2019s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies and Interim Director of the\u00a0<\/span>Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future<\/a>, discusses the Latin American<\/a> stance on the war in Ukraine<\/a> and active non-alignment<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In his remarks, Heine notes that despite the tragic nature of the ongoing Russia<\/a>-Urkrain war<\/a>, countries in the Global South<\/a> reject the effort to make this into a global war and make them pay for something that Europe<\/a> should take care of. While the fallout of the war has been felt by the Global South, he argues that economic sanctions on Russia by Latin American countries are not so cut and dry; these sanctions would have a greater impact on the Latin American economy. Heine points out that there are other ongoing conflicts in the world and it is a double standard to suggest Latin America get involved because the war is happening in Europe while others in the Middle East<\/a> and Africa<\/a> go unnoticed.<\/p>\n The full program can be listened to on\u00a0BBC<\/em>‘s website<\/a>.
