Pardee School of Global Studies<\/a><span>\u00a0at Boston University, published an article in\u00a0<em>The Hindu<\/em> &#8211; one of India\u2019s leading national dailies &#8211; on Latin America&#8217;s new &#8220;pink tide&#8221; and how the story of Gustavo Petro&#8217;s election in Colombia, as well as the challenges he faces, is emblematic of the rest of the region.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In his article, titled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/opinion\/lead\/yes-the-left-is-back-in-latin-america\/article65562043.ece?homepage=true\">Yes, the Left is back in Latin America<\/a>,&#8221; Heine breaks down the rise of left-leaning leaders in the region who were propelled to success by the mismanagement of COVID-19 by right-wing incumbent governments. According to Heine, the question to ask now is not whether the Left is back in Latin America, but how long it will remain as countries like Chile, Colombia, and Honduras are tackling their own unique sets of issues. He goes on to argue that, as a second Cold War between the United States and China rears its head, a policy of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/tag\/active-non-alignment\/\">Active Non-Alignment<\/a> &#8220;may provide a useful guide to channel the foreign policies of Latin American nations, at a time of a changing international system, and as the region\u2019s need to re-establish its presence in world affairs is especially urgent.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The full article can be read on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/opinion\/lead\/yes-the-left-is-back-in-latin-america\/article65562043.ece?homepage=true\"><em>The Hindu<\/em><\/a>&#8216;s website.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/jorge-heine\/\">Ambassador Jorge Heine<\/a><span>\u00a0is a Research Professor at the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University.
