On May 26, 2022, the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University hosted the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) 50th-anniversary conference. The event, titled “International Cooperation for Global Challenges: 50 Years of Building Research Bridges at IIASA,” was co-sponsored by the National Academy of Sciences U.S. Committee for IIASA, Friends of IIASA, & IIASA.<\/p>\n
The all-day conference brought together leading global intellectuals and practitioners, including Albert van Jaarsveld, Director General of IIASA; Adil Najam<\/a>, Dean of the Pardee School and Professor of International Relations and Earth & Environment; as well as numerous scholars from Boston University, Harvard University, Tufts University, the University of California, Berkley, and American University.<\/p>\n On top of celebrating 50 years of work at IIASA, Attendees discussed a range of global issues including health, climate change and climate justice, as well as food and water security. Dean Najam closed out the day by leading a panel discussion on key global challenges, the information and analysis needed for informed development of solutions, and IIASA\u2019s role as a center of science diplomacy with a heritage of building research bridges between nations.<\/p>\n
