Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University and Director of BU\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/gdp\/\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"1\">Global Development Policy Center<\/a><span>\u00a0(GDP Center), published a\u00a0<em>South China Post<\/em> op-ed in which he argues for an increase in financing for green energy around the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the article, titled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/comment\/opinion\/article\/3154239\/world-says-no-coal-china-poised-lead-green-energy-finance?module=perpetual_scroll&amp;pgtype=article&amp;campaign=3154239\">As the world says no to coal, China is poised to lead on green energy finance<\/a>,&#8221; Gallagher applauds the pledge of all major public financiers to stop supporting the global coal industry; however, he notes that it&#8217;s not enough to be against coal and now is the time to support global green energy projects. China already is leading the charge in green energy financing, and Gallagher argues that Western countries need to watch them and follow suit in order to encourage green energy development abroad and maximize benefits from such investments.<\/p>\n<p>An excerpt:<\/p>\n<div data-v-2bd97440=\"\">\n<blockquote>\n<p data-v-28e8952c=\"\" data-v-2bd97440=\"\" class=\"opinion-article__body article-details-type--p content--p\">China and other large economies should match their recent pledges<span>\u00a0<\/span><em data-v-28e8952c=\"\" class=\"opinion-article__body article-details-type--em content--em\">against<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>coal finance with commitments<span>\u00a0<\/span><em data-v-28e8952c=\"\" class=\"opinion-article__body article-details-type--em content--em\">to support<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>green energy transformations around the world&#8230;The opportunities to support green energy finance are also big.
