On October 29, 2021,\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>Center for the Study of Europe<\/a>\u00a0(CSE),\u00a0<\/span>an affiliated center of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, hosted a seminar on \u201cChinese and French Social Capital Networks in North Africa.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The event was organized in cooperation with the Pardee School’s African Studies Center<\/a> and Institute on Culture, Religion, and World Affairs<\/a> (CURA, as part of the ongoing “Assessing China\u2019s Belt and Road Initiative<\/a>” series. This session featured Lina Benabdallah, Assistant Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Wake Forest University, Pardee School professor Michael Woldemarium<\/a>, Associate Professor of International Relations, and was moderated by Grant Rhode, an affiliate of the Center for the Study of Asia.<\/span><\/p>\n Benabdallah focussed her remarks on people-to-people cooperation, an aspect of the Belt and Road Initiative that has received less attention than others. Following an overview of China\u2019s human capital investments in Africa, she offered a comparison of current versus historical arrangements and talked about some of the factors driving human capital investments as well as future trends.<\/p>\n A recording of the event can be viewed below.<\/p>\n
