Woodward Jr.<\/a><span>, Professor of the Practice of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, <\/span><span class=\"s1\">chaired and moderated a panel on face recognition technologies at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.terrapinn.com\/exhibition\/connect-id\/index.stm\">Connect: ID Conference<\/a>, held in Washington, D.C.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The panel featured Stephanie Schuckers, Director, Center For Identification Technology Research (Citer), Clarkson University; Arun Vemury, Director, Biometric And Identity Technology Center, U.S. Department of Homeland Security; Edwin Coello, a Sergeant in the New York City Police Department; and Patrick Grother, Biometrics Evaluator, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). <span class=\"s1\">T<\/span><span class=\"s1\">opics discussed included emerging issues in facial recognition, public perceptions of the technology, facial recognition in government use cases, and policy concerns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Learn more about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.terrapinn.com\/exhibition\/connect-id\/index.stm\">Connect: ID Conference online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><o:p><\/o:p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/john-woodward\/\">John D. Woodward, Jr<\/a>. is a former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer. During his twenty-year CIA career, John served as an operations officer in the Clandestine Service and as a technical intelligence officer in the Directorate of Science and Technology, with assignments in Washington D.C., East Asia, Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East. His publications include<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Biometrics-Identity-Assurance-Information-Age\/dp\/0072222271\"><em>Biometrics: Identity Assurance in the Information Age<\/em><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>(McGraw-Hill, 2003) and<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rand.org\/pubs\/monograph_reports\/MR1237.html\"><em>Army Biometric Applications: Identifying and Addressing Sociocultural Concerns<\/em><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>(RAND, 2001).
