Rachel Brul\u00e9<\/a>, Assistant Professor of Global Development Policy at the\u00a0<\/span>Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, published an\u00a0Open Access Government\u00a0<\/em>op-ed in which she discusses COVID-19 exacerbated gender inequality in the workforce and how it can be addressed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The article, titled “”Why do we need gender inclusive institutions?<\/a>” Brul\u00e9 discusses how women have experienced job loss and reduced benefits at a higher rate than men globally. Despite the fact that women make up a large percentage of healthcare workers, they “are less likely than men to have access to formal wages, wealth, healthcare, and, as health workers have less effective personal protective equipment (PPE).”<\/p>\n

To address this inequality, Brul\u00e9 suggests making healthcare coverage universal as well as access to childcare and education She also suggested increasing investment in mental health infrastructures ” to support necessary healing of individuals, families, and communities during this collective trauma.”<\/p>\n
