The panel explored the contentious discussion that took place at the US-China summit, how the meeting can help both countries understand each other, and whether cooperation can be achieved despite many ongoing disagreements.

During the program, Heine commented on the importance of the meeting and how the U.S. relationship with China remains the key foreign policy challenges facing President Biden. He applauded the fact that the conversation was taking place and hoped that it would lead to significant developments. Both the U.S. and China have expressed an interest in multilateralism, and Heine suggested that such an approach would allow both countries to better tackle global challenges such as climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The full interview can be viewed on CGTN‘s website.

Ambassador Jorge Heine is a Research Professor at the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University.
