The Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University is proud to feature the various members of our graduate student body and alumni community as they work to advance human progress and become the global leaders of the future. Through one of our six MA programs with eight functional specializations, two dual-degree programs, one regional degree, and four graduate certificates, these individuals have explored a\u00a0<\/span>broad-based curriculum that breaks down disciplinary boundaries and enables them to build a holistic understanding of global affairs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For this series of graduate and young alumni features, the Pardee School spoke with various members of our community regarding their professional experience, how the Pardee School helped them reach their career goals, and what advice they have for current students. For this graduate feature, we spoke with C.J. Ray (MAIA ’21).<\/p>\n

Degree and Specialization<\/strong>: MAIA \u2013 Global Economic Affairs
\nHometown<\/strong>: Ottumwa, Iowa
\nWork Experience<\/strong>: Before joining Pardee, I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Togo.<\/p>\n

What led you to take on the work\/internship experiences during your time at Pardee? What did\/do you like about it?<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWhile at Pardee, I have served as both a Graduate and Teaching Assistant.\u00a0 These positions have allowed me to work closely alongside professors in their research and instruct and mentor undergraduate students.\u00a0 It has become abundantly clear to me just how much time and effort our professors put in to advance their own research and to improve the quality of teaching to our students.\u00a0 The teaching role has really been a joy.\u00a0 The undergraduates are really attentive and motivated and it\u2019s great to be able to pique their interest in international economics, a topic I love.\u201d<\/p>\n

How has Pardee helped in <\/em>shaping or attaining your professional goals? And\/or, what advice would you give current students at Pardee to succeed?<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe best aspect of Pardee is the people: the students, faculty, and staff.\u00a0 I have met so many incredible individuals from all around the world and with experience in wide-ranging fields.\u00a0 For any new students, I would definitely recommend getting to know your professors and fellow students outside of the classroom setting.\u00a0 Also, take advantage of the opportunities to attend talks from guest speakers and other events offered by Pardee and affiliated centers on campus.\u00a0 You can learn a ton both academically and professionally at these events.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
