Pardee School of Global Studies<\/a>\u00a0at Boston University hosted a special edition of its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/tag\/beyond-the-headlines\/\">Beyond the Headlines @BUPardeeSchool<\/a>, or BtH,\u00a0series on Friday, June 12, 2020. During this session, Pardee School professors discussed why a global studies education is so important today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The discussion, titled\u00a0&#8220;Why Global Studies Matters Right Now,&#8221; was\u00a0<span>moderated by\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/adil-najam\/\">Adil Najam,<\/a><span>\u00a0Dean of the Pardee School, and <\/span>featured Professors\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/vesko-garcevic\/\">Vesko Gar\u010devi\u0107<\/a>,\u00a0Professor of the Practice of International Relations, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/mahesh-karra\/\">Mahesh Karra<\/a>,\u00a0Assistant Professor of Global Development Policy, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/rachel-nolan\/\">Rachel Nolan<\/a>,\u00a0Assistant Professor of International Relations.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the program, panelists described the role of global studies in understanding opposing perspectives, solving national and global issues, and identifying ones role in making the world a better place. Professors stressed that being a global citizen is goes beyond just being a &#8220;voluntourist.&#8221; Students need to be willing to accept different national perspectives, and be able to recognize their place in the greater global narrative. Pardee School of Global Studies which\u00a0seeks\u00a0<\/span><span>to cultivate informed conversations among experts and\u00a0practitioners\u00a0on issues that are currently in the news headlines, but to do so with a focus on intellectual analysis and on longer-range trends.
