Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, hosted<\/span><span>\u00a0a group of social science scholars from across the country for a two day workshop entitled\u00a0&#8220;<\/span>Finding Religion: Reconsidering Concepts and Methods for Studying Religion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span>During the workshop, participants considered the best practices that social scientists are currently using to \u201cfind religion,\u201d and the ways in which scholars are exploring the diverse manifestations of the phenomena called \u201creligion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The participants shared critical feedback on submitted papers, with an edited volume to come. Faculty members from several BU departments and schools lent their expertise to the group, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/robert-hefner\/\">Robert Hefner<\/a><span>, Pardee School\u00a0<\/span><span>Professor of Anthropology and International Relations,<\/span> Kim Arkin, Rob Weller, Nimi Wariboko, Jeff Rubin, Nicolette Manglos Weber, Jonathan Calvillo, Teena Purohit and David Decosimo.<\/p>\n<p>The project and workshop are directed by <span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/jeremy-menchik\/\">Jeremy Menchik,<\/a><span>\u00a0Pardee School Assistant Professor of International Relations,\u00a0<\/span>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/timothy-p-longman\/\">Timothy Longman,<\/a><span>\u00a0Associate Professor of International Relations and Political Science and CURA Director.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Boston University\u2019s Institute on Culture, Religion, and World Affairs (CURA) brings together a multi-disciplinary community of scholars to encourage and support research on the role of religion in public affairs. Established in 1985, CURA is the oldest center for the study of religion and world affairs in the United States. Supported by a substantial endowment and grants from funders such as the Henry Luce Foundation, the Templeton Foundation, the Bradley Foundation, the Kroc Institute for International Peace, and the Metanexus Foundation, CURA has sponsored over 140 research projects on five continents that have led to the publication of over 145 books.
