Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, hosted\u00a0former member of the German Bundestag and Coordinator of German-North American Cooperation at the Foreign Office of Germany Karsten D. Voigt for a series of lectures, panel discussion and class visits from March 19-22, 2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Voigt also\u00a0<span>served as Vice-President (1992-1994) and then President (1994-1996) of the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO,\u00a0a member of the German Bundestag (from 1976-1998) where\u00a0he served as Foreign Policy Speaker of the Socialdemocratic Fraction (1983-1998), and for many years served as Chairman of the German-Soviet and later the German-Russian parliamentary group.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Voigt is currently a board member of Aspen Germany and a Senior Associate Fellow and member of the presidium of the German Council on Foreign Policy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>On March 20, 2019, Voigt delivered a lecture hosted by the Center for the Study of Europe entitled &#8220;German Political Culture: Changes and New Challenges.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Voigt spoke as part of a March 21, 2019 panel with Pardee School\u00a0<span>Professor of International Relations\u00a0and\u00a0Director of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/asian\">Center for the Study of Asia (BUCSA)<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/thomas-berger\/\">Thomas Berger<\/a> and Pardee School Professor of the Practice of International Relations\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/joseph-wippl\/\">Joseph Wippl<\/a>\u00a0entitled &#8220;<\/span>International Migration and Diaspora in World Politics.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While being hosted by the Center for the Study of Europe, Voigt also visited several classes to speak to Pardee School students in smaller groups on a range of topics including intelligence issues, North Atlantic and European security issues, and the holocaust.<\/p>\n<p><span>The mission of the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/european\">Center for the Study of Europe<\/a><span>\u00a0is to promote understanding of Europe through its cultural heritage; its political, economic, and religious histories; its art, literature, music, and philosophy; as well as through its recent emergence as a new kind of international form through the European Union (EU).\u00a0 Operationally, the center provides a focal point and institutional support for the study of Europe across Boston University through coordination of teaching missions, support of research, community-building among faculty and students, and outreach beyond the University.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Center for the Study of Europe hosted\u00a0former member of the German Bundestag Karsten Voigt for a series of lectures and class visits.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":11588,"featured_media":37270,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[8431,8411],"tags":[11087,8491,10481,1170,11163,8581],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/37207"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/11588"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=37207"}],"version-history":[{"count":8,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/37207\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":37286,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/37207\/revisions\/37286"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/37270"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=37207"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=37207"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=37207"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
