<\/a><\/p>\nAmbassador\u00a0<\/span>Vesko Garcevic<\/a>, Professor of the Practice of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, was interviewed for a recent article examining\u00a0<\/span>far right movements in Europe, specifically in Austria, as well as Russia\u2019s influence in Austria and the European Union.<\/p>\n Garcevic was interviewed for a July 5, 2018 article in\u00a0US News<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>entitled “Austria Fuels the Rise of Europe\u2019s Far-Right.<\/a>“<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0From the text of the article:<\/span><\/p>\n Putin wants to drive wedges between EU member states, says Vesko Garcevic, a career diplomat who previously served as the Montenegrin ambassador to Vienna and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, among other posts.<\/span><\/p>\n “Moscow is well aware: They cannot break up that unity, but what they can do is actually to get them to be more focused on themselves, being absorbed by internal feuds and discussions over the EU future, or some practical issues like how to deal with Russia and migration,” Gacevic says. “The more inward looking the EU is, the less potent a global player it is.”<\/span><\/p>\n “In my view, it’s the result of influence: The interest of Austria to show and display its interest and relations with<\/span>Russia<\/a>, and to place itself in a better position once sanctions are lifted,” says Garcevic, who now teaches international relations at Boston University’s Frederick S.
