<\/a><\/p>\nAn October 2016 Op-Ed published by\u00a0Adil Najam<\/a>, Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University,\u00a0was recently quoted in a\u00a0New York Times<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>article examining\u00a0the large number of\u00a0\u00a0MacArthur Foundation genius grants awarded to\u00a0scientists, scholars, artists and writers born outside of the United States.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Najam’s Op-Ed, entitled\u00a0\u201c<\/span>America\u2019s Nobel Success is the Story of Immigrants,<\/a>\u201d was originally published in\u00a0<\/span>The Conversation<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>It was quoted in a September 23, 2017 article in the\u00a0New York Times\u00a0<\/em>entitled “Want Geniuses? Welcome Immigrants.<\/a>”<\/p>\n From the text of the article:<\/p>\n That\u2019s the moral of the MacArthur Foundation\u2019s math, which it shared first with The Times. That\u2019s also the moral of the Nobel Prizes. According to\u00a0<\/span>an analysis<\/a>late last year by Adil Najam, a Boston University professor: \u201cSince its inception in 1901, the Nobel Prizes and the Prize in Economic Sciences have been awarded\u00a0<\/span>579 times to 911 people and organizations<\/a>. The U.S. alone has had more than 350 Nobel winners. More than 100 of these have been immigrants and\u00a0<\/span>individuals born outside of the United States<\/a>.\u201d If immigrants to the United States were considered their own country, Najam wrote, their tally of Nobels would exceed that of every country\u00a0<\/span>but\u00a0<\/span><\/em>the United States.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
