Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University,\u00a0hosted<\/span>\u00a0a delegation from China&#8217;s\u00a0Central Compilation and Translation Bureau (CCTB) led by Deputy Director-General Wei Hashing at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University on September 20, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Fewsmith and the delegation\u00a0had a wide-ranging discussion revolving around such topics as the role of think tanks, uncertainties in\u00a0Sino-US relations, The North Korea issue, THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense), and soft power.<\/p>\n<p>The Central Compilation and Translation Bureau has recently been designated as a &#8220;comprehensive&#8221; think tank, and so it will play an even greater role in undertaking research and providing policy advice to the government than it has in the past.<\/p>\n<p><span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/joseph-fewsmith\/\">Fewsmith<\/a> is Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Boston University. He is the author or editor of eight books, including, most recently,\u00a0<\/span><i>The Logic and Limits of Political Reform in China\u00a0<\/i><span>(January 2013).
