{"id":29842,"date":"2017-09-11T14:01:09","date_gmt":"2017-09-11T18:01:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/?p=29842"},"modified":"2021-02-03T16:46:53","modified_gmt":"2021-02-03T21:46:53","slug":"pardee-school-graduate-students-attend-orientation-advance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/2017\/09\/11\/pardee-school-graduate-students-attend-orientation-advance\/","title":{"rendered":"Incoming Graduate Students Attend Orientation, Advance"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_29850\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29850\" style=\"width: 526px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"\/pardeeschool\/files\/2017\/09\/Advance.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/pardeeschool\/files\/2017\/09\/Advance-516x300.jpg\" alt=\"Advance\" width=\"516\" height=\"300\" class=\"wp-image-29850 size-medium\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/files\/2017\/09\/Advance-516x300.jpg 516w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/files\/2017\/09\/Advance.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 516px) 100vw, 516px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-29850\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Incoming Pardee School graduate students complete a team-building exercise at the graduate student advance event on September 10, 2017.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span>The Frederick S.\u00a0<\/span><span>Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University<\/span><span>\u00a0is\u00a0excited to welcome its newest MA candidates, who gathered for their academic orientation and graduate student advance on\u00a0September\u00a09-10, 2017.\u00a0<strong><\/strong>The\u00a0incoming MA students\u00a0join the ranks of the Pardee School graduate program from diverse and exciting backgrounds and walks of life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The graduate student orientation, held at Boston University on September 9, 2017, provided incoming students with the opportunity to hear from\u00a0<span>Director of Graduate Studies\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/robert-g-loftis\/\">Amb.\u00a0<\/a><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/robert-g-loftis\/\">Robert Loftis<\/a>\u00a0as well as\u00a0<span>current Pardee School graduate students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Students attended panels at the orientation on a wide range of topics including how to build faculty relationships, networking opportunities and Pardee School events.Staff\u00a0from the Boston University Center for Career Development were also on hand at the orientation to provide information to students on how to most effectively use their services.<\/p>\n<p>The orientation wrapped up with a panel entitled &#8220;How to Be Involved in the Student Community at the Pardee School,&#8221; comprised of current graduate students representing organizations including the Dean&#8217;s Ambassador program,\u00a0<em>Pardee Periodical<\/em>, the Pardee Graduate Council and Sustainability BU. Students also had the opportunity for an informal discussion about student life over lunch following the orientation.<\/p>\n<p>On September 10, 2017, Pardee School graduate students attend the incoming graduate student advance at District Hall in Boston&#8217;s Seaport district for a day of professional development.<\/p>\n<p>The advance began with a welcome from Dean Najam, and continued with a presentation by<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/questromapps.bu.edu\/mgmt_new\/Profiles\/HutchinsonPaul.html\">Paul Hutchinson<\/a><span>, Lecturer at the Questrom School of Business, that focused on community building and how to advance your career.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>New graduate students then had the opportunity for further informal discussion over lunch with Amb.
