Joseph Fewsmith<\/a>, Professor of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, was recently interviewed on how\u00a0t<\/span>he fall from grace of a rising star in China\u2019s Communist Party could signal a reorganization of the\u00a0country\u2019s top officials under President Xi Jinping.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fewsmith was interviewed for a July 17, 2017 article in\u00a0Bloomberg<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>entitled “Downfall of Chinese Rising Star Points to Xi Power Play.<\/a>“<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe 18th Party Congress approved Sun Zhengcai and Hu Chunhua for the Politburo, and both were viewed as possible successors to Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang,\u201d said Joseph Fewsmith, a professor at Boston University who studies China\u2019s elite politics. \u201cSo now, part of the decision of the 18th Party Congress has been overturned. We\u2019ll see if the other part is,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Fewsmith is Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Boston University. He is the author or editor of eight books, including, most recently,\u00a0<\/span>The Logic and Limits of Political Reform in China\u00a0<\/i>(January 2013).
