Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University,<\/a>\u00a0was recently interviewed on the broadcast of <em>Current Times<\/em>,\u00a0<span>the U.S. government-run news channel,\u00a0into Russia and Eastern European countries. The move is largely seen as a way to counteract Russia&#8217;s unofficial propaganda arms RT and Sputnik.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Lukes was interviewed for a July 5, 2017 article in <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\">The Washington Times<\/a><\/em>\u00a0entitled &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2017\/jul\/5\/current-time-broadcasts-into-russia-eastern-europe\/\">Current Time Broadcasts into Russia, Eastern Europe<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>From the text of the article:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s high time that Washington decided to reply to the Kremlin dezinformatsia that comes out of RT and Sputnik, and countless other sources of that kind,\u201d said Cold War scholar Igor Lukes, using a term for the Soviet propaganda machine. \u201cIt\u2019s bound to be successful as long as it adheres to telling the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Lukes, a professor of international relations and history at Boston University\u2019s Pardee School of Global Studies, said the U.S. was spending wisely on Current Time, which has a $22 million budget this year.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/igor-lukes\/\">Igor Lukes<\/a><span>\u00a0writes primarily about Central Europe.
