Cornel Ban<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Assistant Professor of International Relations and\u00a0<\/span>Co-Director of the Global Economic Governance Initiative<\/a>, gave a presentation on March 6, 2017 at the report launch of\u00a0“<\/span>From Crisis to Stability: How to Make the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) Transparent and Accountable,” hosted by\u00a0Transparency International EU<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ban delivered a presentation at the meeting with\u00a0Leo Hoffmann-Axthelm, of Transparency International EU, entitled “Study on ESM Integrity, Transparency and Accountability.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Transparency International EU\u2019s in-depth study of the governance and accountability of the ESM provides the first comprehensive\u00a0analysis of the newest European economic governance institution, and makes a number of concrete recommendations. The report suggests that to make\u00a0the ESM accountable, more transparency is in order in regards to where decisions are made\u00a0and who calls the shots.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0report launch attempts to answer these questions, and was\u00a0followed by a short informal meeting of civil society, think tanks and academics, in an effort to bring\u00a0together interested stakeholders and help kick-start an element of participatory\u00a0democracy to the EU\u2019s economic governance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cornel Ban is the author of ten peer-reviewed articles on economic policy strategies in Southern Europe, Eastern Europe and Latin America, professionals and economic policy, the politics of IMF fiscal policy advice and European financial crisis management. His most recent <\/span>book<\/a> was published by Oxford University Press and deals with the local adaptation and crisis resilience of global economic paradigms in Spain and Romania.
