Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University hosted a workshop on Arab-Russian and Arab-Soviet cultural ties on February 17-18, 2017. The workshop was co-hosted by the BU Center for the Humanities, the BU Arts Initiative and BU World Languages and Literatures.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/margaret-litvin\/\">Margaret Litvin<\/a>, MENA Director and <span>Associate Professor of Arabic and Comparative Literature, kicked off the workshop with welcoming remarks, and said the goal of the event was to foster interdisciplinary conversation across humanities, social sciences, and the arts by\u00a0bringing together scholars who might not ordinarily engage with each other\u2019s work.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_27284\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27284\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"\/pardeeschool\/files\/2017\/02\/MENA2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/pardeeschool\/files\/2017\/02\/MENA2-400x300.jpg\" alt=\"MENA2\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"wp-image-27284 size-medium\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/files\/2017\/02\/MENA2-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/files\/2017\/02\/MENA2-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/files\/2017\/02\/MENA2-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-27284\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alexandra Chreiteh<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;This weekend\u2019s workshop &#8216;Russia in the Arab World: History, Literature, Arts&#8217; makes room for an interdisciplinary group of participants across humanities and social sciences, bringing together scholars who might not ordinarily engage with each other\u2019s work,&#8221; Litvin said. &#8220;You will notice that this event is organized like a conference \u2013 there are no discussants, and we have not precirculated any papers \u2013 but in spirit it is really a workshop.
