<\/a><\/p>\nAdil Najam<\/a>, Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, was recently interviewed on\u00a0an announcement by the United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO) that\u00a0global carbon dioxide levels have passed a symbolic threshold.<\/span><\/p>\n Najam discussed whether the announcement will force countries to act on last year’s Paris climate deal\u00a0in an October 24, 2016 article in the\u00a0Christian Science Monitor<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>entitled “CO2 Levels Reached Milestone in 2015: A Prompt to Turn Paris Deal Into Action?<\/a>”<\/p>\n From the text of the article:<\/p>\n \u201cIf 400 has any real meaning \u2013 it\u2019s just a number nature doesn\u2019t know \u2013 it\u2019s that climate change is no longer an issue of the future. It\u2019s one of today and now,\u201d Adil Najam, dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, tells The Christian Science Monitor.<\/p>\n \u201cYou cannot lull us by saying we will do something tomorrow,\u201d says Dr. Najam, who was a co-author for the Third and Fourth Assessments of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). \u201cLet\u2019s start doing something now.\u201d<\/p>\n But Dr. Najam believes that in order for the Paris deal or Marrakesh to have any significance, countries must agree to reduce carbon emissions now, not in the future.
