The<\/span> Center for the Study of Asia,<\/a> an affiliated regional center of the\u00a0<\/span>Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, hosted their annual Fall Reception on\u00a0September 26, 2016 at the Boston University Castle.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The event, which was\u00a0organized in collaboration with the student group\u00a0Asian Studies Initiative at Boston University (ASIABU),<\/a>\u00a0was\u00a0<\/span>filled with food, fun, and classical Chinese\u00a0dancing.<\/p>\n

\"AS2\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/span>Catherine Yeh,<\/a> Director of the Center for the Study of Asia, welcomed students and faculty back to campus, and also introduced the major theme that the Center will be focusing on during this academic year.<\/span><\/p>\n

“This year the theme for the Center is ‘Asia in the World: Conflict and Engagement,’” Yeh said. “We thought this theme could create a synergy within our community, and some of the things we are focusing on\u00a0events that can actually bring this theme to life. We know that Asia has a long tradition in the world. We also know that Asia has very fast interactions with the rest of the world today through the internet. We know that there are economic relationships, political relationships, cultural relationships — the projects we are trying to foster this year will focus on\u00a0these relationships between Asia and the rest of the world through conflict and engagement.”<\/p>\n

\"AS3\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The mission of the Boston University Center for the Study of Asia (BUCSA) is to promote comprehensive, interdisciplinary, and cross-national understanding of Asia at Boston University. Operationally, it provides a focal point and institutional support for the study of Asia across Boston University through coordination of teaching missions, support of research, community-building among faculty and students, and outreach beyond the university.
