{"id":24157,"date":"2016-09-02T14:59:41","date_gmt":"2016-09-02T18:59:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/?p=24157"},"modified":"2021-02-03T17:40:52","modified_gmt":"2021-02-03T22:40:52","slug":"pardee-school-welcomes-incoming-ma-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/2016\/09\/02\/pardee-school-welcomes-incoming-ma-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Pardee School Welcomes Incoming MA Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/pardeeschool\/files\/2016\/09\/MAOrientation.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/pardeeschool\/files\/2016\/09\/MAOrientation-516x300.jpg\" alt=\"MAOrientation\" width=\"516\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-24161\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/files\/2016\/09\/MAOrientation-516x300.jpg 516w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/files\/2016\/09\/MAOrientation-768x447.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/files\/2016\/09\/MAOrientation-1024x596.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 516px) 100vw, 516px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>The Frederick S.\u00a0<\/span>Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University<span> is proud to welcome its newest MA candidates, who gathered for their academic orientation on\u00a0September 2, 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The\u00a0incoming MA students\u00a0join the ranks of the Pardee School graduate program from diverse and exciting backgrounds and walks of life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The new students were welcomed during orientation by a panel discussion with Pardee School Dean <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/adil-najam\/\">Adil Najam,<\/a><span>\u00a0Director of Graduate Studies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/robert-g-loftis\/\">Amb.\u00a0<\/a><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/robert-g-loftis\/\">Robert Loftis,<\/a>\u00a0<span>and Michael Williams, graduate student advisor. They\u00a0heard about academic opportunities for Pardee School graduate students, and heard from\u00a0current Pardee School students about courses, research opportunities and life in Boston.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Dean Najam emphasized the importance for the graduate students\u00a0to take\u00a0in as much as possible during their time at the Pardee School, and\u00a0<span>to explore subjects outside of their professional areas of interest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hope you will take away a lot of friendships, an understanding of each other, a network &#8212; these will be the people you will stumble upon and run into throughout the rest of your life, Najam said. &#8220;<span>I encourage you to make the best of your limited time at the Pardee School. Attending university should be like drinking from a fire hose. You can\u2019t possibly get it all, but absorb as much as you can.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Amb. Loftis outlined <span>the special components of a Pardee School education, including thesis defense, and<\/span>\u00a0urged the incoming students\u00a0to get to know the Pardee School faculty.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got a great variety of faculty here.
