William Keylor,<\/a> Professor of International Relations and History at the\u00a0<\/span>Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, was recently interviewed on\u00a0the first commercial flight from the United States to Cuba following a half-century hiatus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Keylor was quoted in a September 1, 2016 article in the\u00a0Boston Herald<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>entitled “U.S. Flight to Cuba is Historic<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

From the text of the article:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a win-win situation for Cuba and the U.S.,\u201d Boston University \u2028international relations professor William Keylor told the Herald. \u201cI think it\u2019s going to really improve the relationship between the two countries and put more pressure on the Castro government to loosen up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Keylor said the resumed air travel brought with it a \u201cserious challenge\u201d to America\u2019s strict economic embargo of the island nation.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we can go there, if you can spend money there, if you can travel there, interact with the people, why not be able to trade with them? Why not be able to export goods to them?\u201d he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Keylor served four consecutive terms as Chairman of the Department of History at Boston University (1988-2000) and has been Director of the International History Institute since 1999.
