Kaija Schilde,<\/a> Assistant Professor of International Relations at the <\/span>Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University,<\/a>\u00a0was recently interviewed about an ISIS attack in the W\u00fcrzburg,\u00a0<\/span>Germany in which five people were wounded.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Schilde was quoted in the July 19, 2016 article in the\u00a0Christian Science Monitor<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>entitled “ISIS-Claimed German Attack Presents Yet Another Test for Asylum Policies<\/a>,” and said the attack could affect border controls across the European Union.<\/p>\n

Kaija Schilde, a professor at Boston University\u2019s Pardee School of Global Studies who studies EU security and migration policy, thinks the attack in W\u00fcrzburg could lead to tighter controls on borders across the Union.<\/p>\n

\u201cGermany can\u2019t control who comes. It can only control who stays,\u201d she tells the Monitor. \u201cThat\u2019s the elephant in the room.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Schilde says that instead of piling on controls on Europe\u2019s borders, EU member countries should cooperate more on security and intelligence. Right now, \u201cthey have to be draconian at borders because they lack an internal coordinating body for security.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
