The Fredrick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University was well-represented at the Latin America Studies Association<\/a> (LASA) International Congress held from May 27 through May 30 2016 in New York City.<\/p>\n

Six faculty members from the\u00a0<\/span>Latin American Studies Program<\/a>\u00a0(LASP), an affiliated program\u00a0of the\u00a0Pardee School, were in attendance for the Congress including Director of Latin American Studies and Associate Professor of Spanish Adela Pineda<\/a>, Professor Emeritus of International Relations and Political Science David Scott Palmer<\/a>, Professor of International Relations and Sociology Susan Eckstein<\/a>, Assistant Professor of International Relations Renata Keller<\/a>, Assistant Professor of Political Science Taylor Boas<\/a>\u00a0and Associate Professor of History Jeffrey Rubin<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Pardee School\u00a0sponsored the LASA Gala at the Congress on May 28, 2016.<\/p>\n

LASA is the largest professional Association in the world for individuals and institutions engaged in the study of Latin America.\u00a0Every year, specialists on Latin America gather at the LASA International Congress. Featuring over 900 sessions, including plenary sessions and informal meetings, the Congress is the world’s premier forum for expert discussion on Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2016 Congress marked LASA’s 50th anniversary, providing the organization the opportunity to\u00a0assess the evolution of Latin American studies over the past\u00a0half century, paying special attention to how the\u00a0locus of the field has changed in terms of transnational actors and flows and the shaping of new identities.<\/span><\/p>\n
