<\/a><\/p>\nKevin Gallagher,<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>Professor of Global Development Policy at the <\/span>Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, was recently interviewed for several articles on China’s emergence as a leader in development finance as well as fears about the country’s global energy financing.<\/span><\/p>\n Gallagher was quoted in a May 17, 2016 article in the\u00a0Financial Times<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>entitled “China Becomes Global Leader in Development Finance.<\/a>” The article also referenced a study co-authored by Gallagher and\u00a0Rohini Kamal of the Global Economic Governance Initiative<\/a> and Wang Yongzhong of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n From the text of the article:<\/p>\n \u201cChina is emerging as the global leader in development finance,\u201d said the study, which was authored jointly by Kevin Gallagher, professor at Boston University and co-director at the Global Economic Governance Initiative (GEGI), Rohini Kamal of GEGI and Wang Yongzhong at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIn terms of scale, Chinese finance is a major foot forward,\u201d said Prof Gallagher. \u201cAll the talk in the development world is of the need to move from \u2018billions to trillions\u2019 in order to transition to a more low-carbon and equitable world economy.”<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Gallagher and the study were also referenced in a May 18, 2016 article in the\u00a0Financial Times<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>entitled “China\u2019s Global Energy Financing Raises Climate Fears.<\/a>”<\/p>\n From the text of the article:<\/p>\n But China\u2019s lending is \u201cheavily exposed to country, macroeconomic, climate and social risks\u201d according to the study authored jointly by Kevin Gallagher, professor at Boston University and co-director at the Global Economic Governance Initiative (GEGI), Rohini Kamal of GEGI and Wang Yongzhong at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span>\u201cChinese banks are expanding the amount of energy finance available to foreign governments in part because the Chinese appear to be willing to take on more risk,\u201d wrote Mr Gallagher, Ms Kamal and Mr Wang.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
