The inaugural issue of the Pardee Periodical<\/em>, a graduate academic journal at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, was recently published and features a diverse collection of articles on topics including Islamic extremism, the energy industry in Norway\u00a0and the debt crisis in Greece.<\/p>\n

Jocelyn Spottiswoode, Editor-In-Chief of the Pardee Periodical <\/em>and MA in International Relations and International Communication, said \u00a0she hopes the publication serves as a platform for Pardee School graduate students to get published while they are still working toward their degree.<\/p>\n

“I, and the editorial board, wanted to give all Masters and pre-Doctoral students the ability to have their\u00a0work\u00a0published and go through an\u00a0edition process,” Spottiswoode said. “We hope that the journal will serve as a place where future decision and policy makers are able to engage in discourse about\u00a0the issues that are\u00a0important to them.\u00a0 It’s a place where students who don’t necessarily want to\u00a0pursue a career in academia can still air their thoughts publicly.”<\/p>\n

Spottiswoode said the journal will serve as a learning experience of the editorial process for both editors and contributors.<\/p>\n

“The editing process of the Pardee\u00a0Periodical\u00a0is a way of\u00a0learning\u00a0and\u00a0improving your writing as you think critically about what and how you’ve written something,” Spottiswoode said. “It’s also a learning process for the editors who are\u00a0having to assess submissions, and formulate coherent\u00a0arguments about the merits of a paper.\u00a0 For students hoping to go on a do a PhD or engage in research this is an excellent way of putting their toe in the water and testing out if this a process or experience they are going to enjoy.”<\/p>\n
