<\/a><\/p>\nJoseph Wippl,<\/a> Professor of the Practice of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University,<\/a> wrote a book review that will be published in an upcoming edition of the\u00a0International Journal of Intelligence and Counterintelligence.<\/em><\/p>\n “The Results of Conflicted Policy”<\/a> is slated for inclusion in the journal’s Volume 29, Issue 1, due in 2016. It was released online in November.<\/p>\n In the article, Wippl reviews the 2015 book\u00a088 Days to Kandahar: A CIA Story<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>by Robert L. Grenier, a former CIA station chief in Islamabad. Forging separate alliances with warlords, Taliban dissidents, and Pakistani intelligence, Grenier launched the \u201csouthern campaign,\u201d orchestrating the final defeat of the Taliban and Hamid Karzai\u2019s rise to power in 88 chaotic days.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n From the text of Wippl’s article:<\/p>\n The major element in\u00a088 Days to\u00a0Kandahar\u00a0is the Central Intelligence\u00a0Agency\u2019s conduct of the war against\u00a0al-Qaeda and the Taliban after the\u00a0World Trade Center attacks on 11\u00a0September 2001 (9=11). Robert (Bob)\u00a0Grenier, CIA Station Chief in Islamabad, Pakistan, found himself\u00a0in the center of a hurricane on that\u00a0day. Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin\u00a0Laden had directed the 9\u00a0=\u00a011 attacks\u00a0from his safe haven in Afghanistan.\u00a0An expert in the area of South Asia\u00a0due to previous tours as a National<\/p>\n Intelligence Officer for the Middle\u00a0East and South Asia, as well as a\u00a0senior officer in the Agency\u2019s\u00a0Non-Proliferation Center, Grenier\u00a0was as qualified as anyone could be\u00a0to lead a large part of the American\u00a0intelligence effort against al-Qaeda\u00a0and the Taliban.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n You can read the entire article here.<\/a><\/p>\n During his 30-year career with the Central Intelligence\u00a0Agency\u2019s (CIA) National Clandestine Service (NCS), Wippl served as an\u00a0operations officer and manager in Bonn, West Germany; Guatemala City;\u00a0Luxembourg; Madrid; Mexico City; Vienna; and Berlin.
