Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University<\/a> came together with colleagues and the community to discuss the ethical implications of\u00a0taking action to combat climate change.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/pardeepride\/calendar\/?eid=173898\">&#8220;The Moral Case for Saving the Planet: Regional Perspectives&#8221;<\/a> was a joint effort by BU Global Programs and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/unplaced-pages-holder\/regional-studies\/\">Division of Regional Studies (DRS),<\/a> which includes the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/africa\/\">African Studies Center,<\/a> the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/european\/\">Center for the Study of Europe,<\/a> the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/asian\/\">Center for the Study of Asia,<\/a> the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/las\/\">Latin American Studies Program,<\/a> the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cura\/\">Institute on Culture, Religion and World Affairs,<\/a> the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/smscinst\/\">Institute for the Study of Muslim Societies and Civilizations,<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/mena\/\">Middle East and North Africa Studies Program.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The event featured a panel discussion examining the perspectives of various parts of the world on the problems and potential interventions to climate change. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/henrik-selin\/\">Henrik Selin,<\/a> Director of Curricular Innovation for the Pardee School, spoke on the perspective of Europe.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Europe can of course do more to halt climate change, but by the standards of the developed world it is doing well,&#8221; Selin said. &#8220;Europe contains some of the most secular regions of the world, and they have succeeded in making climate change a moral issue based on the common good.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Joining Selin was Pardee School Dean <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/adil-najam\/\">Adil Najam,<\/a> who spoke on the perspective of the global South; as well as BU colleagues James McCann and Robert Weller. The event was moderated by Robert Hefner, Director of the Institute on Culture, Religion and World Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>The event was video recorded and attended by a sizable crowd at the BU Castle.
