Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, gave the keynote address at a conference in Scotland on the history of the British monarchy.<\/p>\n<p>Goldstein&#8217;s address was the centerpiece of <a href=\"http:\/\/heirstothethrone-project.net\/?page_id=1176\">&#8220;Winning their Trust and Affection: Royal Heirs and the Uses of Soft Power in 19<sup>th<\/sup> Century Europe,&#8221;<\/a> which took place August 28 &#8211; 29 at the University of St. Andrew&#8217;s in Scotland &#8211; long an alma mater for British royals, including Prince William.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I spoke on \u2018Royal Ambassadors \u2013 Monarchical Diplomacy and the United States,\u2019&#8221; said Goldstein. &#8220;It was part of a project on \u2018Heirs to Thrones\u2019 funded by the United Kingdom Arts &amp; Humanities Research Council.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span>The conference was dedicated to an exploration of the uses heirs to the throne in Europe\u2019s monarchies made of different forms of soft power\u00a0&#8211; how their\u00a0activities and strategies were conceived, designed and implemented; whether they were successful or not; and how they contributed to a transformation of the nature and perception of monarchy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Goldstein is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (of Britain) and a member of the Advisory Board of the Center for Global Change and Governance, Rutgers University, having previously served as a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for the Study of Diplomacy at the University of Leicester (UK).<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/profile\/erik-goldstein\/\"> Learn more about him here.\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pardee School Professor Erik Goldstein gave the keynote address at a conference in Scotland on the history of the British monarchy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2094,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[8432],"tags":[8802,1360,9023],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18705"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2094"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=18705"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18705\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":18707,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18705\/revisions\/18707"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=18705"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=18705"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=18705"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
