The Consulate of Portugal in Boston, the Delegation of the European Union to the United States, and the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University<\/a> are glad to announce an event on \u201cTransatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership: Moving towards Transatlantic Economic Integration,\u201d<\/a> to be held on October 8 at the Boston University Castle. The event will include live presentations, a general discussion, and a networking reception.<\/p>\n

EU ambassador David O’Sullivan<\/a> will give a keynote speech on TTIP negotiations and the context in which they take place, based on his direct involvement in these talks.<\/p>\n

The event will be opened by the Portuguese Consul General in Boston, Jos\u00e9 Caro\u00e7o, and the Director of the Center for the Study of Europe<\/a>, Prof. Vivien Schmidt.<\/a> Two sessions will follow centering on topics related to transatlantic trade and economic collaboration. The first session, “Geopolitical and Broader Context of TTIP,” will feature presentations from Dr. Tereza Novotna, a FNRS post-doctoral researcher at the Institute for European Studies at the Universit\u00e9 libre de Bruxelles, and Prof. Roberto Dominguez of Suffolk University. Dr. Novotna will speak on \u201cEU Institutions, Member States and TTIP Negotiations: The Balance of Power.\u201d Prof. Dominguez will present a talk titled, \u201cImplications of TTIP for the Wider World: Views from Latin America.\u201d<\/p>\n

The second session focuses on \u201cTrade Implications, Sectors and Issues.\u201d Woodrow Wilson Fellow and American University Professor Michelle Egan will begin with an outline of \u201cReframing Regulatory Cooperation under TTIP.\u201d Next, Prof. Fernanda Nicola, of American University\u2019s Washington College of Law, will examine \u201cTransformative ISDS: The Constitutional Dimension of Investor-State Arbitration in TTIP.\u201d Finally, Prof. Kaija Schilde, from the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, will review \u201cPossibilities For and Challenges to Defense Markets Opening Up as a Part of TTIP.\u201d<\/p>\n

The event will conclude with a discussion by Prof. Daniela Caruso, of the Boston University School of Law, and a Q&A session moderated by Prof. Schmidt. Participants are invited to stay afterward for a networking reception.<\/p>\n
