<\/a><\/p>\nCornel Ban,<\/a> Assistant Professor of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University,<\/a> said that the recent travails of Greece in negotiating a bailout with the rest of the Eurozone meant that nations that were considering adopting the currency, such as Romania, are\u00a0carefully weighing their options.<\/p>\n Ban made his case in a July 25 article in the\u00a0Huffington Post\u00a0<\/em>entitled “The Euro Is In Trouble. But Romania Still Wants In.”<\/a><\/p>\n From the text of the article:<\/p>\n Cornel Ban, an international finance expert at Boston University who was born and raised in Romania, said that Romania often follows the lead of Poland, a larger and wealthier country. He said Poland\u2019s recent public skepticism about joining the eurozone after the Greek ordeal makes it less likely that Romania will be joining soon.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is going to be very hard to explain to people after the Greek crisis what the cost of joining the eurozone would be,\u201d Ban said. \u201cI think in 2009 we would have gone in without the debate… A lot of people are looking at Greece, saying this is a situation we would be in too.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n You can read the rest of the article here.<\/a><\/p>\n Ban, who co-directs the Pardee-affiliated\u00a0Global Economic Governance Initiative,<\/a> is currently completing a book manuscript on the political economy of crises, with a focus on the role of economic ideas and the interaction between international and domestic actors.
