Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University,<\/a> said that China&#8217;s investment in Latin America could have far-reaching environmental impacts.<\/p>\n<p>Gallagher made the argument in a May 4 article that ran on the front page of the newspaper <em>China Daily<\/em> entitled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressreader.com\/brazil\/china-daily-latin-america-weekly\">&#8220;Commodities-Boom Impact a Problem: Report.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>From the text of the article:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Kevin Gallagher, one of the authors\u00a0of China in Latin America: Lessons\u00a0for South-South Cooperation and\u00a0Sustainable Development, said Chinese\u00a0investment in Latin America\u00a0has been focused on the petroleum,\u00a0mineral extraction and agricultural\u00a0sectors which are the \u201cbread and butter\u00a0of the Latin American economy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s investment and development\u00a0of Latin America\u2019s resources\u00a0have led to impressive economic\u00a0advances in the region but also cause\u00a0some environmental concerns, said\u00a0Gallagher, co-director of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/research\/research-initiatives\/global-decolonization-initiative\/\">Global\u00a0Economic Governance Initiative <\/a>at\u00a0the Frederick S.
