Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University,<\/a> said that Japan must acknowledge its history as it makes a push for soft power in the U. S.<\/p>\n<p>The remarks came in a Jan. 26 article in the Wall Street Journal entitled, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/japan-takes-soft-power-push-to-u-s-campus-1422261930\">&#8220;Japan Takes Soft-Power Push to U. S. Campus.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the article, Berger states:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThere is a lot that modern Japan can be proud of,\u201d said Thomas Berger, associate professor of international relations at Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University. Still, he said, \u201cI fear that Abe\u2019s efforts to change the way the outside world views modern Japanese history is both futile and counterproductive.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You can read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/japan-takes-soft-power-push-to-u-s-campus-1422261930\">the entire article here. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Berger has taught International Relations at BU since 2001. Previously, he taught for seven years at the Johns Hopkins Department of Political Science in Baltimore. He is the author of\u00a0<em>War, Guilt and World Politics After World War II<\/em>,\u00a0\u00a0<em>Cultures of Antimilitarism: National Security in Germany and Japan<\/em>\u00a0and is co-editor of\u00a0<em>Japan in International Politics: Beyond the Reactive State.<\/em>\u00a0His articles and essays have appeared in numerous edited volumes and journals, including\u00a0<em>International Security<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Review of International Studies<\/em>,\u00a0<em>German Politics<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>World Affairs Quarterly<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pardee prof.
