Pardee School of Global Studies (BA International Relations, 2008), was awarded the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/today\/2014\/a-celebratory-alumni-weekend\/\">Distinguished Young Alumni Award<\/a> during <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alumniweekend\/\">Alumni Weekend 2014<\/a>, for his recent work in Syria, Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>Matt\u00a0is the co-founder and Director of Research at the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/sreo.org\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Syria Research and Evaluation Organization<\/a>\u00a0in Gaziantep, Turkey. Previously, he spent four years working as the Director of Communications at the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/auaf.edu.af\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American University of Afghanistan<\/a>\u00a0after working for more than a year at the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/auis.edu.iq\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American University of Iraq<\/a>.\u00a0Before going overseas, he worked as a writer and researcher at the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wilsoncenter.org\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars<\/a>\u00a0in Washington, D.C., as well as at\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/ccas.georgetown.edu\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Georgetown University\u2019s Center for Contemporary Arab Studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The award was presented in an impressive ceremony at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/today\/2014\/a-celebratory-alumni-weekend\/\">Best of BU Luncheon<\/a>, with more than 300 BU alumni present and the University President, Robert Brown, presiding. Matt&#8217;s family accompanied him to the ceremony, where he was asked to make remarks on his work and how BU has influenced his life.<\/p>\n<p>Later in the day Matt Trevithick also spoke as a panelist at a special panel on\u00a0<em>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/2014\/09\/20\/alumni-weekend-2014-the-changing-face-of-security\/\">The World in Flux: The Changing Face of Security\u201d<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>organized by the BU Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies as part of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/alumniweekend\/\">Alumni Weekend 2014<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Matt Trevithick, alumnus of College of Arts and Sciences and the Frederick S.
