{"id":23754,"date":"2016-08-08T14:45:57","date_gmt":"2016-08-08T18:45:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/?page_id=23754"},"modified":"2025-10-28T10:26:18","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T14:26:18","slug":"standardized-testing","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/admissions\/graduate-admissions\/standardized-testing\/","title":{"rendered":"Standardized Testing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><\/span><strong>Graduate Record Examination (GRE)<\/strong><\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>As of the 2022 application cycle, the GRE will no longer be required.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates applying to a dual degree program should check with the respective schools regarding required exam submissions to apply, such as the LSAT, GRE, or GMAT exams.<\/p>\n<p><span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><\/span><strong>English Proficiency Requirement<\/strong><\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>If English is not your native language<\/strong>, and you do not meet any of the requirements for exemption listed below, you must demonstrate your English language proficiency by submitting scores from one of the tests listed here. Minimum scores for each test are noted.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT: 90 minimum total score, with a score of at least 22 in each section (reading, writing, speaking, listening), MyBest score included.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span>*For the new TOEFL iBT score reports starting in January 2026: 5 minimum average score with each component score being at least a 4.5<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Please make your official TOEFL scores available using institution code 3087 with ETS (no department code needed).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic test only): 7.0 overall band score. <strong>Request an official report be sent to Boston University Graduate Programs.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Cambridge English Tests: All tests that demonstrate a C1 level (B2 First Exam Grade A, C1 Advanced Exam Grades A, B, or C, and all passing C2 Proficiency Exam Grades)<\/li>\n<li>Duolingo English Test*: 130 minimum<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*When you log in to complete the Duolingo exam, please select Boston University Graduate &amp; Professional Programs as a score recipient. Once you have completed the Duolingo exam, please email Pardee School Admissions at psgsgrad@bu.edu with Subject Line \u201cDuolingo,\u201d and include your first and last name, exam date, and the name of the master\u2019s program to which you are applying.<\/p>\n<p>You are not required to submit an English proficiency test if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your native language is English.<\/li>\n<li>Your bachelor\u2019s degree studies were conducted entirely in English.<\/li>\n<li>You have (or will have by the start of the program) 4 or more years in a full-time, post-bachelor\u2019s degree position in an English-speaking country and in an organization that conducts its business in English.
