Italy and Greece: Two Case-Studies for Chinese Involvement in Southern Europe

The Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University is hosting a virtual conference series titled“Assessing China’s Belt and Road Initiative” to examine the economic, social, political, and security impacts of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Since the BRI cuts across regions and topics, all seven of the Pardee School’s regional and thematic centers are sponsoring events related to their particular focus, including book launches, talks, and interviews.

To this end, on Friday, April 16, the Center for the Study of Europe is hosting a session entitled “Italy and Greece: Two Case Studies for Chinese Involvement in Southern Europe” with Philippe Le Corre, Research Fellow with the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government and the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the Harvard Kennedy School. Le Corre’s research focus is on China-Europe relations, Chinese overseas investments and China’s global rise.

Joining as discussants are Amb. Vesko Garcevic, Professor of the Practice of International Relations at the Pardee School, and Dimitrios Skiadas, Visiting Researcher at the Center for the Study of Europe. The event will be moderated by Dr. Grant Rhode, an affiliated scholar of BU’s Center for the Study of Asia and series convener.
