Sarah Mardini: From Refugee to Rescuer

  • Starts: 3:00 pm on Tuesday, April 11, 2017
  • Ends: 5:00 pm on Tuesday, April 11, 2017
FMHT and the Pardee School of Global Studies are pleased to welcome Sarah Mardini as she visits Boston University to share her powerful story. In August 2015, a bomb completely destroyed Sarah’s family home in Damascus, Syria, forcing Sarah and her sister to undertake a harrowing 30 day journey to Berlin by boat, car, train and foot. During their crossing to Greece in a small boat with other refugees, the engine died and Sarah and her sister, both professional swimmers, jumped out and pushed the boat for three and a half hours to safety on the Greek island of Lesvos. She is now working as a volunteer rescuer on Lesvos. Moderated by FMHT Director Kaija Schilde and Graduate Co-Chair Vicky Kelberer. Please RSVP to EventsPS@bu.edu. Space is limited. Light refreshments and snacks will be served.
