Join FMHT and Dr. Oroub el-Abed of SOAS for a lunch discussion. Since the arrival of Palestinians in neighbouring countries as refugees in 1948, economic integration has been suggested as a solution in light of political challenges. But has this been enough to address the rights of refugees in host countries, especially in a protracted refugee situation like the Palestinians'? Same solution is now being suggested to accommodate the Syrians. How included will they be in their Arab host states? This talk looks at the politics to host and manage refugees in camps or outside camps using certain labels with some rights which undercut the principles of ensuring basic human rights. Such categorisation offers a way of understanding policy agendas, economic interests of host states but most importantly the ways refugees seek to adapt in such circumstances.
