Hare Weighs in on Cuban Intelligence Lapses Leading to Maduro’s Capture

Professor Paul Webster Hare was recently quoted in a Japan Times article titled “How Cuba was blindsided by the operation to capture Maduro” discussing Cuban intelligence failures that resulted in the detention of Nicolás Maduro. Experts have said that this capture by the U.S. forces of the Venezuelan leader, along with the killing of 32 Cubans protecting him has proved to be a detrimental blow to the Cuban intelligence services, often known for their precision.

Ambassador Paul Hare 

Hare, the former British ambassador to Cuba and Venezuela, said that Cuban intelligence underestimated the United States this time. The professor pointed out that America’s access to insider cooperation in Venezuela, i.e., information within Maduro’s circle, played a significant role in the success of this operation.
