Najam Awarded Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Development Leadership Award

Dr. Adil Najam, Dean Emeritus and Professor of International Relations and of Earth and Environment at the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, recently received two of Pakistan’s most distinguished awards, the Hilal-i-Imtiaz and the Development Leadership Award. Earlier in 2009, Najam had been awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence) Medal for his contributions to environmental research.
The Hilal-i-Imtiaz, or the Crescent of Excellence medal, was conferred by the President of Pakistan upon Najam for his dedication and outstanding service to Education and Environment. This year’s list of recipients of Pakistan’s national civil awards was announced by the President of Pakistan on the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day (August 14, 2023). The investiture ceremony will take place at the President’s House, Islamabad, Pakistan, on Pakistan Day, March 23, 2024.
Najam was also chosen for a Development Leadership Award. These awards were established this past year to celebrate the completion of 75 years of Pakistan, but also to commend those who have contributed significantly to the progress of Pakistan by inspiring others and shaping the development discourse in Pakistan.
Adil Najam served as the Inaugural Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies from 2014-2022. He is also a former Vice-Chancellor of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and is the President elect (starting July 2023) of WWF International.
