Garčević Speaks at IEMS George E. Danis Security & Diplomacy Seminar

On February 23, 2023, Ambassador Vesko Garčević, Professor of the Practice of International Relations at Boston University’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, took part in two panels as part of the Winter 2023 George E. Danis Security & Diplomacy Seminar hosted by Emmanuel College‘s Institute of Eastern Mediterranean Studies (IEMS).

A collaboration between IEMS, The American College of Greece, the Institute of International Relations from Athens, and George E. Danis, the seminar was themed “Resurgent Nationalism and the Diplomacy and Security in the Eastern Mediterranean.” The event – featuring dozens of scholars and practitioners from the Eastern Mediterranean (the Middle East and North Africa), Europe, and the United States – addressed the multi-faceted, intersectional issues that explain the significance of the Eastern Mediterranean in regional, transregional, and global terms, especially in the context of resurgent and revisionist nationalism by considering issues such as religious-cultural identities and inter- and intra-state relations.

Garčević took part in two panels: “The Western Balkans: Geopolitics and Nationalism” and the closing session panel titled “Resurgent Nationalism Challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean,” in which he and fellow panelists examined how the war in Ukraine may reflect on the situation in Eastern Mediterranean, including TurkishGreek relations.
