GDP Center Hosts Book Talk on Mehrling’s “Money and Empire“

On November 14, 2022, the Global Development Policy Center (GDP Center), an affiliated center of Boston University’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, hosted a book talk on Money and Empire: Charles P. Kindleberger and the Dollar System, the latest book by Pardee School Professor of International Political Economy Perry Mehrling.
Kevin Gallagher, Professor of Global Development Policy and Director of the GDP Center, led the discussion with Mehrling on his book, Charles P. Kindleberger, and the global dollar system. The audience of students and scholars from BU and the surrounding area engaged the speakers in an in-depth Q&A session, and each was given a signed copy of Mehrling’s book at the conclusion of the event.
Money and Empire, currently #1 on Amazon for macroeconomics books, is a biography of both Kindleberger and the dollar system. It is also the story of the development of ideas about how money works. It throws a revealing light on the underlying economic forces and political obstacles shaping our globalized world.
