Pardee School Welcomes New Student Affairs and Services Staff

Boston University’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies is pleased to welcome three new staff members to its Student Affairs and Services team, a Director and two Senior Undergraduate Advisors.

The Student Services team is dedicated to the academic and professional growth of graduate and undergraduate students at the Pardee School. Through holistic academic advising, faculty mentoring, as well as curricular and co-curricular initiatives, the department encourages students to explore their interests and pursue opportunities that expand their worldview.

Katherine Taylor is serving as the Director of Student Affairs and Services. She has a BA in history from Princeton and a MA in Law & Diplomacy from Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Prior to assuming her position at the Pardee School, Kate worked at the Fletcher School for over 10 years, most recently as the Associate Director for the Global Masters of Arts Program.

Sophia Gish is joining the Pardee School as a Senior Undergraduate Advisor. She recently received her Master’s in Education (Ed.M.) from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Prior to graduate school, she worked as a Student Learning Center Coordinator at the Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. She has worked with college students in a variety of capacities, including as a tutor, an academic coach, and a teacher of English as a second language. Sophia also holds a B.A. in English from Dartmouth College.

Lauren Thams is also joining the team as a Senior Undergraduate Advisor. Lauren holds a master’s in student affairs administration from Michigan State University as well as a bachelor’s in political science and Spanish from the University of Michigan. Most recently, she worked as Assistant Director of Opportunity Programs at Maria College, where she worked with many non-traditional and first-generation students. She has also worked in a number of student-facing roles at Michigan State, taught English as a second language, and served for two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal.

As Senior Undergraduate Advisors, Lauren and Sophia will be working closely with the Pardee School’s undergraduate population, advising them on course selection, major requirements, study abroad, and other academic matters. They will also support a number of related initiatives, such as Dean’s Ambassadors, the faculty mentor program, travel grants, and prospective student visits.
