Heine Discusses Summit of the Americas on “CGTN“

In his appearance on CGTN‘s “The Hub,” Jorge Heine, Research Professor at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, discusses the Summit of the Americas and what the Biden administration can accomplish there without the participation of key Latin American countries.

In his remarks, Heine notes that the absence of Bolivia, Cuba, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Venezuela is a missed opportunity for United States President Joe Biden, who boasted about America’s return to multilateral diplomacy when taking office. While Heine is still hopeful that something can come of the Summit, he argued that the Biden administration’s failure to drastically change its policy approach to the region from that of former President Donald Trump has compromised inter-American relations.
