Heine Interviewed on Global South’s Strategy Toward Ukraine Crisis

In an interview with Suddeutsche Zeitung – one of Germany’s leading news dailies – Ambassador Jorge Heine, Research Professor at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, discussed the war in Ukraine and the relevance of his most recent book in understanding the position of leading countries in the Global South.

In his remarks, Heine explains why the reaction to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the sanctions against them have been so different in the West than in the Global South. Drawing on the findings in his latest book – Active Non-Alignment and Latin America: A Doctrine for the New Century – he discusses the move toward a post-Western dominated world order, countries’ economic reliance on China, as well as how a strategy of active non-alignment can benefit Latin America during this crisis and in the future.
