Schmidt Discusses French Presidential Candidates at Delphi Economic Forum

On April 8, 2022, Vivien Schmidt, Jean Monnet Professor of European Integration and Professor of International Relations and Political Science at the Pardee School, took part in a panel at the Delphi Economic Forum in Delphi, Greece.

The forum is a yearly event that brings together political, business, and academic leaders from around the world to discuss the “big issues” in a variety of fields, from business and economics to politics and the classics.

During Schmidt’s panel, titled “The critical French elections and their meaning for Europe,” she discussed Marine Le Pen – currently one of two candidates in the second round of the French Presidential elections – and how her election could pose danger for the European Union (EU) as well as for France. She went on to explain why President Macron has been a visionary leader for the EU so far and would likely be a progressive force in the next few years were he re-elected.
